HOW DO I BEGIN COUNSELLING?

Deciding to seek help is daunting enough, the next step is to find the appropriate therapy for you.  This website offers information which I hope is helpful to you.  Do not hesitate to contact and ask any questions which may concern you.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The therapist and client sit together. The client has the space to talk about whatever feels the most important or problematic issue. The therapist will listen carefully to understand how and why these issues are causing distress. The therapist will respond  and focus on the issues that matter.  This process which awakens self-awareness fosters  a deeper understanding of how you interact  in the world around you.

Each of us develop through key relationships in our lives. For many reasons these relationships can be problematic and therefore do not create an environment  facilitates emotional growth and development. Therapy promotes insight by looking at memories, your past and current relationships, dreams, hopes and reflection on their meaning. insight can help to settle difficult emotions which in turn calms the mind.

WHY DO I HAVE TO ATTEND REGULARLY?

A session is a weekly 50 minute appointment between client and therapist at the same time on the same day. The regularity and frequency of appointment is essential to the work, so deciding to attend counselling is a commitment. Counselling can last from a few months to a year or longer.

WHAT ARE THE COST IMPLICATIONS?

The first appointment is free of charge. Fees for ongoing sessions vary from £60 to £75 per session. We will discuss and agree a mutually workable fee in the first session.  Fees are payable in cash or cheque at the end of the session.

I also offer  some low cost sessions, please ask.

WHO DO YOU TELL ABOUT ME?

Confidentiality is important. I am bound by the ethics of the BACP. Sessions and information revealed by you will be confidential.

HOW DO I MAKE THE FIRST APPOINTMENT?

No GP referral is necessary to make an appointment. If you think that you could benefit by talking about your current situation call me to set up a meeting. In this one-off appointment you’ll be able to explore how therapy could help you before deciding to go further.
